As a Security Assistant, You Will Be Responsible For
This position is located in the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, Office of Administrative Services, Office of Security and Safety. The selectee will serve as a Security Assistant supporting the government in administering pre-entry on duty security screening procedures for USPTO employees and contractor personnel.
Performing duties and responsibilities pertaining to Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) for the USPTO.
Processing new employee or contractor background investigations/re-investigations.
Reviewing required forms, processes, and screening security forms.
Assisting employees in preparation of personnel security questionnaires.
Delivering administrative support related to personnel security. Establishing spreadsheets, databases, or reports on case history, provides data entry, database maintenance, and administration services.
Assisting with personnel security orientation briefings.
Assisting with security clearance requests.
Assisting with entering information into the USPTO tracking database.

Specialized Experience: is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-05. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Experience assisting in the operational activities related to the security screening process; and
- Experience assisting in the initiation of security and suitability background investigations for employees and contractors; and
- Experience assisting higher-level Security Specialist with duties associated with investigative services, utilizes secure web portal programs (i.e. electronic questionnaires for investigating processing and personnel investigations processing system) and maintains a high level of privacy control over Personal Identifying Information (PII).
As a general rule, education is not creditable above the GS-5 for most positions covered by clerical and administrative support standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
