Mold Maintenance & Design Engineer (Plastic & Sheet Metal)

1. Mold Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on plastic injection molds and sheet metal stamping dies.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mold-related issues during production runs and implement immediate corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Disassemble, repair, and replace worn or damaged components (e.g., cores, cavities, ejector pins, guides, springs, nozzles, cutting edges).
  • Ensure the final surface finish and functionality of molds meet the quality standards required for consumer-facing home appliances.
  • Collaborate with the production team to schedule maintenance without disrupting production targets.

2. Design & Improvement:

  • Use AutoCAD and SolidWorks to design new molds or modify existing mold designs for improved performance, longevity, and part quality.
  • Create detailed 2D technical drawings and 3D models of mold components and full assemblies.
  • Optimize mold designs to enhance production efficiency, reduce cycle times, and minimize material waste.
  • Support new product development teams by providing design-for-manufacturability (DFM) input for new appliance parts.

3. Documentation & Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, modifications, and spare parts usage.
  • Generate technical reports on mold performance, failure analysis, and recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensure all molds and dies comply with internal quality standards and relevant safety regulations.

4. Coordination & Technical Support:

  • Work closely with production, quality assurance, and R&D departments to resolve technical issues and implement solutions.
  • Provide technical support and guidance during the setup of new molds or after major repairs.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for product defects and implement permanent corrective actions related to mold design or maintenance.

5. Safety & Compliance:

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures within a manufacturing environment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace in the mold shop.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.Experience: Minimum of 3-7 years of hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing both plastic injection molds and sheet metal stamping dies. Experience within the home appliance, automotive, or consumer goods manufacturing industry is highly preferred.Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks is mandatory. Experience with simulation software (e.g., SolidWorks Simulation) is a strong advantage.Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of mold manufacturing processes, materials (e.g., ABS, PP, galvanized steel, aluminum), and hardware (hydraulic, pneumatic systems).
