The Design Workshops are an interdisciplinary department within the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Arts at the German University in Cairo. They currently consist of seven separate workshop units. The Wood Workshop belongs to the Form and Volume Workshop Cluster. The department’s mission is to teach all students practical skills relevant to the majors Graphic, Media and Product Design. Throughout the majors, the workshops are an important resource, where students conduct experiments, realize assignments, create design prototypes, and participate in research. The Design Workshops contribute to the unique profile of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Arts as a leader in design education in Egypt.The Faculty is searching for a creative professional person with specialist craft experience to the fill the vacancy as Technical Assistant in Wood. The candidate should be motivated to gain experience within an intercultural academic environment and be willing to develop the own profile at the intersection of design, craft and technology.Qualifications, Experience, Skills Willingness to continually improve his/her skills and knowledge Basic knowledge in Carpentry Basic knowledge and skills in Carpentry machines Basic technical understanding and knowledge Basic knowledge in mathematics Basic organizational and coordinating abilities Ability to find appropriate solutions for individual problems Ability to do physical workWork Tasks Prepare and assist class for students during the introductory courses Support the supervisor in all technical belongings Constant cleaning and purifying the machines and all materials Support of teaching and practical realization of students projects Usage of all needed machines to finalize the projects of students Guidance and support for ongoing projects of students during the semester Assistance for technical realization for the final projects of Students Assist the supervisor and lecturer of Product design to realize semester projects Maintain the machines and equipment used in the Wood workshop Assist the supervisor in behalf of projects related to other workshops Use PC and standard program like MS Office, print and scan to assist the supervisor Prepare and support the purchase for the Wood workshop and projectsThe Technical Assistant will report to the Workshop Supervisor and the Head of Workshops and coordinate his/her work together with the Teaching Assistant.
